Picket Fences

Fine Fencing

A considered, stylish Picket Fence will add street appeal, and value to your property.

It is believed the “white picket fence” originated from the early colonial days in America, and has now progressed as a statement for many a front yard across modern day Australia.

Picket fences are popular across the world, and the Northern Beaches of Sydney is no exception.

Chris, our business owner, who conducts all client meetings, loves to discuss fence design ideas, and how a picket fence will compliment your landscape and property.

Here at Fine Fencing we offer a full range of picket fence styles. Things to consider include:

  • Picket Type. These can be flat top (square), Gothic, Windsor, Round or perhaps something different;
  • Post Type. Timber posts can act as a feature and break up the fence line. The post tops can be pyramid, or chamfered, or even add some rebate rings if you’re feeling fancy!  Galvanised steel posts generally sit behind the fence, are more affordable, and don’t suffer movement and twisting like timber can.
  • Material. The vast majority of picket fences are treated pine, that is dressed and ready for painting. Though growing in popularity, are aluminium pickets (plus a whole range of batten fences and screens). While these are more expensive than timber fences, they come powdercoated in your choice of colour, have superb corrosion resistance, and are maintenance free.
  • Picket Width. Most on trend at the moment is the wider 90mm picket for the modern picket fence. Though other widths are avaible, with both 66mm and 42mm being other popular options;
  • Picket Spacing. Do you prefer a more traditional wider spacing, that feels more open, or something more modern that is tight and offers greater privacy.
  • Fence height. Most front fences are in the range of 0.9-1.2m high which is a comfortable height that keeps children and pets in, while keeping the front of your property feeling open. There are regulations around front fence heights and you should check with council regarding this.

For whatever style of picket fence you are considering, we would love to chat more about your project. Give us a call or drop us an email!
